These days, emojis have become a common element in our interactive process.
Research from 2015 showed that up to 92% of online consumers were using emojis back then, and you can only imagine that would have increased. But while more and more people are using emojis, studies also highlight a key element which brands, in particular, need to keep in mind when considering if they use them in their outreach.
According to analysis conducted by the University of Minnesota, there can be major discrepancies in the way people interpret emojis, with their meanings varying by social group, region and other factors.
So while it might be a good idea to jump on the emoji train and boost appeal with your audience in a friendly, light-hearted way, you do need to tread carefully.
