Social analytics app BuzzSumo has added a new feature which will help provide more context and insight for content marketers.
Adding to social sharing data from Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, and backlink data via Majestic, the app can now also provide insights from Reddit, and the 250 million monthly active users who engage in a wide range of topics on the platform.
As explained by BuzzSumo’s Steve Rayson, Reddit data can provide more context on popular discussion topics within your niche.
“Often called “the front page of the internet,” [Reddit] sees 7 billion page views a month. It is where many users share and discuss items from politics to marketing. Importantly Reddit users are active sharers of content. A Pew Research study found that 62% of Reddit posts linked to another website.”
It’s not going to be beneficial for all businesses, but Reddit insights can add a new element to your research process, giving you a broader view into what’s generating discussion - and then, by linking through to the relevant subreddits in question, more perspective on what information, specifically, people are seeking.
That’s where BuzzSumo’s new Reddit insights could actually prove most helpful – while Reddit shares have been added to the main BuzzSumo listings (as above), Reddit data is also now included in the app’s ‘Question Analyzer’ function, which enables users to find the top questions being asked about any topic.
That could prove particularly useful for content marketers:
“For example, there were over 50,000 questions asked in the askscience sub-reddit on the following topics.”
Reddit users are known for being overly passionate about their topic/s of choice, which often leads to more informed questions – by adding this capacity to BuzzSumo’s question analyzer, content creators can get more perspective on the top queries in their niche, which they can then address in their own material.
There’s a heap of ways this could be useful – for content marketers, BuzzSumo is likely already a key tool, and Reddit insights only improve on that. Again, it will depend on your niche, and what’s being discussed on the platform, but definitely, it’s worth a look. There could be a range of key questions for you to address just waiting for you to explore.
