I don't really get the hype around the various 'dark mode' options.
I mean, from a health standpoint, it makes sense - blue light emitted by smartphone screens helps you to see them, even in bright light, but at night, it can confuse your brain, and stop production of melatonin, potentially messing up your sleep cycle. But every time an app announces a dark mode option, it seems to spark a lot of hype. Which I don't really understand.
Personal misgivings aside, it looks like Pinterest is close to adding a new dark mode option to its mobile app, with reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong spotting the setting within the back-end code elements.

Pinterest actually added 'night mode' to its web app in July last year, but its not currently an option within the mobile app. The workaround is that you can apply dark mode to the web version, and log in via a browser, as opposed to the app itself, but that's obviously not ideal.
Given this, this update seems fairly logical, fairly practical - and as noted, it will provide additional health benefits as well as giving your Pin layout a new look.
There's no word on an official roll-out of the option, but you can likely expect to see it arrive sometime soon.
