Here is as comprehensive list of players in the space that I could compile. I selected them based on my own professional sense of what I thought was important in regards to what they brought to the table and for whom. Some are more platform based than others, but I thought all of them were very relevant to where we are as of today. They are not in any particular order:

In conclusion, this list will expand and contract as conditions continue to evolve. Though some of the platforms/companies are not pure play, they all are contributing to the conversation, in what can only be construed as rhe dawning and evolution of a new digital phenomenon. Did I miss any in your opinion? What are your thoughts on the list? Are some better than others?

Marc, am I wrong or is the Dell Ideastorm, strictly speaking, not a platform that I can buy?

Robin you are correct. You can't buy it, but I wanted to add it because of the power of the platform. I probablly should have segmented the groupings, since I received so many email on "others" who thought that they should be on the list. I am compiling another list as we speak.

Marc - Thanks - Great Article,

I am searching for the same sort of list for the emerging markets of MENA and APAC, do you have a comparable list? Also if you want to include another one to watch I would also add H2O New Media out of Dubai that seem to be hot on the toes of MZINGA and Kick Apps in the GCC. In fact I will publish my list for the emerging markets soon on here. Thanks again for a great article, very informative. Also interesting to see what companies are investing in Social media after doing some digging. You just saved me at least ten hours work.
