FOUR YEARS AGO, the Washington Post dubbed Barack Obama the “King of Social Media.” It was a fitting sobriquet. After all, Obama used the untested new medium to flat-out out-fox and out-run the most well-oiled, well-entrenched political machine of our time in the Clintons. But Obama’s secrets are no longer. The GOP is poised to pounce and will likely use everything they learned, with a potent mix of new tactics, to rocket Romney to victory in November. [read more]

2012 is an election year. This is not only the case in the US, but also in many other countries including my own, Belgium. There will local elections and union elections this year. But I am looking forward, with a lot of anticipation, to how US politics will be using Social Media to rally to victory. Four years ago, Team Obama surprised everybody, but this year, many politicians and candidates will be fighting back and use the same weapons. What I can not stop wondering about is whether the Democratic or Republican party has a Social Media Policy. I do not think so and in all honesty I am not sure they can make one that sticks. "Condensing answers on topics like the economy and the war in Afghanistan into 140 character snippets also runs the risk of trivialising serious political stories. Of course on the other hand, the debate provided a way for voters at home to interact directly with politicians in an unprecedented way, and the trending of the process raised awareness of the race for the Republican nomination and those involved it." Twitter Town Hall Cynicism is Misplaced

"In the many face-to-face town hall meeetings held to date, only the lucky few who scored tickets and passed screenings were able to get into the auditorium where they had a shot at having a question answered. Turning to YouTube and Twitter simply opens the door to anybody who wants query his or her leader. Shrugging that off as a stunt is like making fun of someone who uses a computer for word processing, which improves the process of typing. " [read more]

"I was blown away. Looking back, what I think we were doing is a lot like Agile management. What time we spent organizing was done in a Scrum zero meeting, getting alignment and empowering each team member. Everyone walked out of the meeting as I like to say, 'highly aligned and loosely coupled.' Like a Lean start-up, we had just followed the rule, 'Nail it, then scale it.' " [read more]

President Obama called the $100m of US aid to Haiti an "investment." I like that. Did you know that President Obama has 13 million permission based email addresses? Of course you do. It was one of the smart moves he made that helped him win the election. Last week I interviewed Heather Lauer who is in charge of online strategy for the Pickens Plan, a grass-roots effort to support legendary oil-man-turned-energy-independence champion T. (Originally posted to Social Government)It finally looks like the Obama Administration has made good on a campaign promise: allowing for public comment on non-emergency pieces of legislation before the president signs them. Intrade is prediction market. People buy and sell contracts based on outcomes. If you own one of the 2008.Pres.Clinton(H) contracts and Hillary Clinton does become President, you get $10. Right now, that contract will cost you about $4.85. That's more than a 100% return in just over 1 year. Not bad. Google (GOOG ) would have to be... [read more]
