On 3 Ways To Get More Facebook Engagement By Using Photos

Eric,

I certainly think your company can take advantage of social media, especially when paired with a content marketing plan. If you'd like to have a conversation about your specific social media needs, email me at sam.zastrow (at) cloudtactix.com and we'll set something up.

On A Lesson on Hiring a Social Media Manager from the Cathryn Sloane Firestorm

Chris,

I sense it took a great deal of nerve to keep yourself from completely attacking Sloane in the post you linked to above. It's kind of funny that I say that, because that's precisely what she was unable to do when she wrote what she wrote in the first place.

Like Ray said, she could've saved face to some extent had she responded with either an apology or an explanation right away. That would've been the professional thing to do. I think her lack of a response tells us she either a) knows what she wrote was ridiculous and she's too embarassed about it to respond or b) isn't mature enough to realize she's making it worse by letting folks like us continue to talk about it. Or both, perhaps.

Hopefully we'll hear from her sooner or later.

Ray, thanks for the insightful comment. I loved the chainsaw example!

The way you put it, it seems pretty silly to be squabbling over a silly thing like age. It's logical -- the more you do something, the better you get at it, regardless of how old you are or any other arbitrarily chosen factor.

What makes that truth exciting for young marketing types like myself is the fact that we're facing the same challenge as our older peers: integrating social media into an overall marketing plan.

Hey Mic,

Thanks for the comment. Your comparison of social media to Word and PowerPoint makes me wonder just how relevant (or irrelevant) this discussion will be in the not-so-distant future. Soon enough, almost every marketer will have enough social media savvy to navigate social marketing realm. It's already happening, judging by the backlash Sloane's post got.

Hi Gokul,

I love the idea of having a team of your three different types of marketers. The thing I'm not so sure about is the idea that smaller businesses can afford such a team. What might be more important (and more feasible) is that these types of businesses take care that they're hiring an SMM who can step back and look at social strategies from all three perspectives.
