I agree Stephen, I have been approached by potential suppliers via Facebook and it's a little odd. LinkedIn obviously has the greatest potential but in my opinion still isn't a fully functional social network.

Totally agree internal email might start to faze out. There are alreadyinternal social media platforms such as Yammer but I believe it's the likes of Chatter by salesforce that integrates with your CRM which will become popular. Internally you need to try and reduce the amount of systems you use and as everyone uses CRMs it seems like the obvious choice.

On Social Media Branding: Are Employees Your Employees 24/7?

We all tall about the companies we work for with our friends, families even ransoms people in the pub and what we sat influences their opinion. Social media just magnifies what we are saying and announces it to a wider audience than attended. Both employees and employers need to respect this and be realistic about what they are doing. 

I remember a case about three employee who were fired for uploading a video of them play fighting in their work uniforms. They took they employers to court and the judge overturned the decision as the video had 8 views! Lets not pretend that our opinions count that much and what we post goes instantly viral otherwise we wouldn't need sites like this.

I really like the answers section of LinkedIn it was much more useful than groups. Maybe they could add an answers section to LinkedIn groups to reviatlise them.

On Twitter: Better to use a company or personal account in B2B?

From my time at Yolk I've found that people do better than brands but one thing you need to consider when choosing a person over a brand is that people leave and take their followers with them. Think about it Richard Branson is bigger than Virgin, Sir Alan is bigger than Amstrad, Jobs drew as much attention as Apple so even though perosnal accounts bringing quicker results they don't offer the long term stability of a brand.

On Social Media Requires a Cross-Functional Team

Recently attended a semiar about social networking in the workplace targeted at HR professionals and it was very interesting to see their take on it and how companies are approaching the misuse of social networking. I believe that social networking should be integrated new employee orientation programs so they act as brand advocates and know from the start how it should be utilised to the companies benefits.

On LinkedIn, Please Take on Group Spammers

I have recently had to block people auto posting their blogs to one of the groups I manage. The group is specifically for marketing professionals in South Wales and while some of their blog posts are relevant the large majority are not. After blocking their auto updates I recieved an inbox message off them asking why I did this? Isn't it obvious, they don't engage with anyone else's post they simply want to generate traffice. I tried educating them that it's just as important to listen as it is to speak but they didn't care.

On Why You Can’t Sell with Social Media (And What to Do Instead)

Trying to directly tie sales to tweets (or posts etc) is very difficult unless your an eCommerce business and have a specific promotion only promoted via social media but that doesn't mean its not valuable.

We see social media as a way of nurturing our client relationships, emails are dead in my opinion while social media is thriving. Simply retweeting a client, promoting their business or giving them a #FF goes a long way. As time goes on maybe this will deteriorate as more businesses start using this approach and people's attention is once again stretched but for now we're making the most of it at Yolk and looking at the long term benefits.
