On Instagram: the Most Powerful Sales Platform on the Internet?

I wholeheartedly agree with this. There are always reports out there that are either over enthusiastic or a little alarmist, but these often fail to tell the whole story. Things are never that simple, and if they were, we wouldn't need these reports in the first place!

I still agree with you in the sense that there are definitely opportunities ahead for companies on Instagram (if I didn't, I wouldn't work with Nitrogram). But I do believe any company could at least try jumping on it. The only resource it costs is time, and there are some excellent success stories out there for small businesses, like Shopatrend for example.

On What Instagram Really Changed in Their Terms of Service

In my opinion you looked at it the right way: When sharing content online, particularly on networks were profiles are primarily public like it's the case with Instagram, it's always better to assume that people are legally able to dispose of your photos.

Not a lot of people think that way, but I think it's the right state of mind to adopt. Just look at the recent story where Randi Zuckerberg posted a photo on Facebook (appaarently without locking it as being private) and it was then reposted on Twitter. That kind of stuff happens, even to the Zuckerbergs!

On Why 2012 Still Belongs To Instagram (INFOGRAPHIC)

As I've already written on an article in Social Media Today, I strongly believe that Instagram 1. didn't try to trick its users, 2. isn't going to lose users after last week's events. They obviously didn't word the changes in the Terms of Use in a clear enough manner, and users reacted strongly to it, overreacted even. Because as some pointed out, nothing really effectively changed between the old tos and the new suggested ones. But hey, Instagram is going to rework them anyways to fulfill its users compaints, so it won't be a big deal then.

You make a good point about the trial balloon but I want to give more credit to Instagram and I believe this is not what their intention was there. The simple fact that they are changing their ToS to align with what the users requested is enough proof of it. Now we have to wait and see what the final version will look like, but they'll likely be better worded, in a way that doesn't anger customers and, more importantly, doesn't instill doubt in them anymore.

You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it. By the way, it's been confirmed by Instagram CEO on their official blog: They're not going to sell ads, not going to change dramatically, just trying things out to monetize in the least intrusive ways possible, just as any good business would.

Those are all good tips Lisa, and it's true that Instagram for Businesses has never been so hot than lately. The Thankgiving period has proven to rise Instagram's numbers, another sign that companies should jump on the opportunity.

I'm thinking of additional steps that companies can do to manage their Instagram for marketing, and I'd say integrating Instagram on other platforms such as their Website and Facebook page would be a good idea. To do that, there's Nitrogram a platform built for businesses on Instagram. It also provides analytics.

Very good tips indeed Mary! Indeed, gen-Ys are the most likely to be active and engaging with brands on Instagram. I've checked out the Happiness Truck account and I have to say you're really applying your own advice there. Looks like people are having a fun time. I noticed that you also share images, like the coca logo, from time to time. Is it something you found your followers and fans were engaging with?

Also, what are you using to track hashtags and find new ones to use? I'm suggesting that you'd take a look at Nitrogram: the social engagement and marketing platform for Instagram. It could make your life easier managing your account!

These are all good tips. When it comes to tools to measure these metrics, I'm working with Nitrogram to develop one on Instagram. It allows companies to track hashtags and users to know how engaged and active their communities are on Instagram.

Hi Aleksandar. It's excellent that you mentioned Nitrogram in there. It's true that Nitrogram can help with running contest because it's a platform that provides analytics around hashtags and users which is helpful to measure the impact of contests, campaigns, and the general engagement that a brand is getting on Instagram.

It also provides a simple way to reuse Instagram photos on Websites, Blogs and on a Facebook tab which again can be useful for many purposes, among which contests are up there. Cheers.
