That's true too Kent. Too much automation doesn't build an engaged fan base.

I use Hootsuite on my desktop but as a mobile app I prefer Tweetbot. Just a better UI in my opinion.
On What Online Marketers Can Learn From the Red Bull Jump
It's hard to say if it was worth it for them or not. Surely it raises brand recognition but was that the goal of this campaign? We have to know what they consider success to be before we cananswer that question.
On Social Marketing: It’s (Still) All About Your Content
I agree that a lot of contnent can be scheduled but I'm not so sure about your percentages. 70% seems a bit high. I'd go more for a 50/50 split including posts that I read in my RSS feeds and add to Buffer or other scheduling tools so all the good stuff doesn't all go out at once.

On 3 Things Your 'Social Media Expert' Won't Tell You About Growth
I love the cartoon, that is truly what a lot of small businesses get when they ask about a strategy. And also spot on about not jumping on every single new platform just because everybody else did.
BUT, let's talk about how much time it takes to get those speaking gigs and create the content that is broadcasted to a larger audience. And what do you do once you connect with them? Isn't use of an appropriate social media channel an inportant part of that marketing plan?
The bottom line is, there needs to be a strategy to every marketing plan, including which of the social networks fits for you, the time and resources available and whether there is a good fit from one network to the next. Yes, that strategy should be finely tuned to the needs of the business, not hitting 20 different netwiorks., but there is nothing lazy about marketing any company. It's hard work!

GREAT post Jason and I'll share it to my clients. I can't count the number of time clients have said "But comany x does it" and I have to explain why these promotions are dangerous. Having your page sumarrily deleted is a very disruptive thing.
On Social Media Marketing is Failing
It's not that social media "marketing" is failing as it is that if you think you can throw money at it and not put some real sweat equity into actually reaching out to their market and engaging on some level you will blow it. Some (not all) big corps still don't get how all this works and that it takes a lot of smarl thinking to create a something that has value to the consumer and the corp.

Well said Brett. If we simply remember that nothing is private then there's no privacy violation. On Two steps to social media success
