Bruno -

Sorry for the late response, but I never got the notice of you comment for some reason.

I've been meaning to update this document with some new tools and sites!

If you want to send me an e-mail with any suggestions, I'll build them in and re-release this post...    Reach me via my blog at www.ericgoldstein.net

Thanks,

ERic

If you want a tool to send messages for you, evaluate your statistics, or do anything outside of analyze Twitter traffic at a generic level, you'll need to allow access to the system.

Realize that these systems are not storing or have access to the password itself.   It's the same thing that happens in Facebook, Yahoo, Open ID, etc..    You shouldn't do it without thinking, but this is not the same thing as providing someone your password.

On The Only Reason to Participate in Social Media

I wouldn't say that the ONLY reason to participate in marketing activity (particularly sociial media) is to "generate a customer".

While, the end goal is to obviously generate revenue, there are many other key wins that come with social media:

1) Maintaining a customer

2) Recovering a lost customer

3) Engaging with a customer

4) Learning from prospects and customers.   Tools like Twitter are excellent for testing new concepts, language, and ideas before you invest more heavily in more expensive marketing efforts.

5) Educating your customer (falls under maintaining, I guess).

I'm also a fan of starting to segment social media traffic the same way that many people segment their e-mail and marketing efforts.

Bottom line, as I believe you're saying, content and the value of what you're sending is king.   If you provide info (combined with a solution) that provides value, you'll get people to read your stuff, come to your site, and generate leads, sales, and happy customers.

Thanks,

Eric

On Justin Bieber: A Social Media Case Study

Thanks for your comment.  I'm being accused of having Bieber fever by my friends.   It's the hit I'll have to take.

I added all suggestions except for SocialBro since that's still in Beta and I couldn't confirm that it is working.

I'll add Tweetbot later today when I add some of the other new ones in here, but it is very similar to TweetAdder.

I erred on the side of a "quick description" in the interest of space so I could maximize the number of working applications I could list.   Many of the apps are similar and preference falls to cost, unique features, and what user interface you like.

Thanks for your comment!

Good add-ons.   I haven't looked at the comments in a week or so, but I'll get these added in later today.

I added DestroyTwitter to the list - although I found it to be relatively similar to many of the other clients.

Sarah,

I actually had TweetEffect on the list initially, but I had a few people tell me that they found it rather useless.   I tested it myself with my Twitter Account (ericsgoldstein) and found the info to be very confusing.   First, it says that over the past 170 posts, I've only gained 2 followers - impossible.   I'm gaining 50-100/day.

Second, the measurements seem to show +9, then -9, then +9, then -9,  then +15, then -15.

Even the total followers seems off.

I posted a tweet with some feedback as well and will see if they respond.

Thanks - I'll get the other suggestions up in the next day or so.
