I feel compelled to share a personal thought as one year closes and another one starts. Most of what you will see from me in 2009 will be about the world of work or social media, but occasionally I will be inspired to share something personal or a tidbit from the world of sport as I see it.
My wife and I are so blessed to have two wonderful sons. Our oldest son, Daniel, is halfway through his junior year at Vanderbilt University. Our youngest son, Matthew, is in his freshman year at Auburn University. Their schools are perfectly suited for their career aspirations and I couldn’t be happier about their choices or their progress.
2008 did bring about one interesting twist that I thought of this morning. If history is to be used to gauge the future I assumed that my oldest son would be most happy with the fortunes of his school’s basketball team while my youngest son would be most satisfied with Tiger Football (War Eagle). This fall provided an interesting contrast to this assumption as Vandy finished the year in stellar fashion by beating BC in the Music City Bowl while all has been quiet on the plains since late November. I could have never predicted this and suspect that all will right itself at Auburn soon and that the evil leader in Tuscaloosa will get his itch for a new playground and leave for some greener pasture soon, making all thing right in Tigerland.
Basketball is revving up at both schools and I look forward in eager anticipation to be at Beard Eaves on Jan 31 to see the Dores and Tigers square off in MBB. The final junket of the year will be in the spring when the Dores again travel to Auburn to face the Tigers at Plainsman Park for baseball.
My wish to each of you is that your 2009 is a safe, happy and productive time. As you can see, my 2008 has been wonderful and I am excited about the prospects for 2009.
Happy New Year!
War Eagle!
Go Dores!
