Well, let’s get right to it. I started slacking with blogging sometime in April. The lazy bug bit me again, but it is now time to get back on track. Sometimes you must to take a little break, because you can get burnt out and completely stop blogging. And you do not want to stop blogging, you want to keep going.
Blogging involves more than just posting articles. If you want others to read your post, you must do other activities that will encourage others to visit your blog, read and share your post. When I slack in posting, I slack in other activities like commenting on other blogs, being active on Twitter, Facebook, uploading videos to YouTube and other social media services.
I have noticed:
- Consistency is key. A few days or weeks of not being consistent results in everything else suffering. Consistency is major!
- Slight dip in traffic. When I was posting regularly and more active in social media, my traffic increased steadily. However, when I started slacking my numbers decreased slightly.
- Slight dip in Alexa ranking. This is not something, I worry about too much. The fluctuation in Alexa tells me that my traffic is taking a slight dip.
- Comments decrease. These days, I do not sweat over not receiving a lot of comments on a post. Comments are only one measure for the success of a post. I pay more attention to the number of views on a post. Oftentimes, I receive many views on a post, but very few comments. I am okay with that.
- Sometimes you need to take a break. Taking a little break from blogging helps me refresh and focus even more.
What do you notice when you take a break from blogging?
