How is London 2012 using Social Media?
As expected… ‘awesomely!’
To start off, the website itself has a light and fun design and with sub-domains for shopping, ticket purchasing and festivals, the site is easy to navigate and explore. A cool element is the Get Set Network where students and educational institutions can sign up for rewards and get involved in the games. Network sign-up brings athletes into schools and inspires students through sport.
Videos to pump up the world and get build excitment about the olympics have been posted since a year ago. From their ‘Inspired by Sport – London 2012′ (which gives a global view of sport) to featured playlists introducing viewers to the athletes, venues and mascots, the YouTube site got me excited!
With just over half a million followers (c’mon people follow them!), regular tweeting is generating buzz and connecting the world. London2012 tweeters are answering questions about venues, tickets, photos and providing information on the newest preparations.
As expected, Facebook pulls in all the pieces and connects us to other pages and posts that are Olympic-related.
And the best part, the International Olympic Committee has posted guidelines for social media and blogging on their website clearly outlining what patrons and accredited persons can and cannot do online.
What we say every day is use social media to connect, engage, explore and build relationships. London2012′s online efforts are doing just that and building excitement for the games. With only 91 days to go, and the world tuning in – this is going to be a lot of fun
