The most commented post on SMT last week was Joyce Dierschke's Do You Censor Yourself on Social Media? which served as a valuable reminder that social media really is "social" and you need be careful what content you share with the world.  For that effort, Joyce is this week's Blogger of the Week..

A Marcom copywriter who specializes in emerging, broadcast, and print media (to which she also brings an extensive background in graphic design), Joyce worked for ten years in the business side of broadcasting before deciding that she really wanted to do something more creative. Her first writing job was for a real estate marketing group, followed by a year at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale where she paired print design with copywriting, before launching her own full service marketing and communications company. About two years ago, she added web design to her versatile list of services.

"I suppose I "discovered" social media about a year and a half ago while working with a copywriting coach," she says. "I was looking to focus my writing on a niche market and we talked extensively about Web 2.0. It seemed to me then, as it still does, that social media is the future of marketing. The spark started a fire. I began by studying great blogs and learning how to blog effectively, why to blog, who should blog, etc. Things just sort of snowballed from there - as they tend to do on line."

She started blogging herself last fall and and launched a marketing newsletter associated with the blog at the same time.

"Until I wrote Do You Censor Yourself on Social Media the other day, my blog only got a handful of views per day. I really appreciate Social Media Today picking up on it and passing it along. That is exactly what I wanted to achieve - starting a discussion on a topic of interest to a variety of people, and gaining a base of readers who will leave thoughtful comments. I've already learned so much from the comments I've received so far.

"Copywriting and social media are my true passions. Most people who know me will tell you that I never shut up about blogging! I even have rubber wristbands that I use in my own direct mail marketing that say "Blogs close the loop" - which is something I honestly believe about blogs and how they can enhance traditional marketing."
