Apple iPad Makes Huge Strides Disrupting Public Education
In the race for smartphone supremacy, Apple may be bested in global sales by Android devices but tablets are where Apple crushes all comers. The Los Angeles Unified School District recently announced plans to revamp their antiquated teaching methodologies and enter the 21st century with a $30 million purchase of iPads for students.
Apple’s iPad handily beat out competitor bids from the likes of Microsoft, who aggressively slashed the price of their “Surface” tablets to $199 each. The introduction of iPads into the classroom builds upon Steve Job’s vision of disrupting education by providing students of all ages with access to their own Mac PC’s at home and in the classroom.
According to Mac Rumors, “Apple offers discounts across its product lineup for students and earlier this year, it was reported that the company had sold more than 8 million iPads to educational institutions around the world… Apple also met with the Turkish President to further discuss another huge educational deal that would see the country purchasing more than $4.5 billion worth of Apple products. ”
This news is exciting to hear yet long overdue. Introducing high-technology into the classroom has been proven to be a key factor in boosting educational standards across the board. Another advantage is the digitization of schoolbooks and printed material.
