I've really been organizing events for about 30 years. I can say that because I was always the one as a teenager who called around all of my friends and got a big group of people together for a meet up. Sometimes I lamented and wondered why no one else would organize events. Until eventually I realized that most people don't organize stuff, and prefer to sit back and wait for others to drive events to happen.
Working in marketing and PR means that you get to meet a lot of people who are social and enjoy organizing stuff, you can get into your own bubble without realizing that what maybe fun, or good for you may not be fun or good for others.
So if your event is not taking off, have patience, call a few more people, and develop some out of the box ideas for encouraging people to attend.
Don't give up, persevere, and if you do, I think you will find you will be rewarded. I know I always did. I think my record for inviting kids as a young teenager to events was 16 people, and that wasn’t even to my house.
