Today on Twitter, #Aurora was trending in the wake of the mass shooting that erupted this morning at a Colorado movie theatre during the midnight screening of the new Batman flick, The Dark Knight Rises.
The online British retailer released this tweet today, and the Twitter community wasn't to thrilled to see it:
The tweet even prompted a boycott group on Facebook.
The company did damage control by tweeting in their apology that they didn't know that the hashtag had negative connotations, and they believed that it was simply trending, but is that ignorance acceptable for someone using Social Media to market a brand?
This really serves as a lesson for all of us: Think before you tweet, but even more, check out the connotation of your hashtags before you decide to jump on the bandwagon.
Have you ever made a mistake on Social Media that made your presence take a hit?
