This is a quick list of dos and don'ts in business blogging.  Advice that I've gathered from many people that I've started to incorporate in my own practice and pass on to those I work with.

Do

  • If your business is more than one person, you should have more than one blogger.
  • Talk about what is going on with the company.
  • Ask for help, suggestions on how to improve.
  • Encourage employee blogs and link to them (clear employee blogging guidelines my be needed).
  • Feature customers and clients… spread the love!
  • Invite guest posts from customers.

Don't

  • Shy away from controversy… especially when it involves your company.
  • Always use blogging as a way to feature product, shell out your press releases or try and get people to buy something.
  • be afraid to talk about your competition, just keep it above the belt.
  • be afraid that people will say bad things… they will deal with it!
