Top Ways to Bring SEO Back to Life for Your Older Pages
As a Webmaster, it’s always a good idea to reflect on all of the pages of your website at least once or twice every year. You want to make sure that you’re getting the most from all of your pages, and the SEO and content of all of your pages isn’t going to stand the test of time. Fortunately, there are things you can do to revive some of your more stagnant pages just enough that they will start bringing in traffic again.
How to Bring Back SEO Value to Your Older Pages
Going through your website and finding pages that aren’t performing doesn’t take as much time as many realize. It may seem like a daunting task, but once you get going you’ll find that it’s actually quite simple. The first thing you need to do before you work with any pages is determine which old pages could use an SEO revamp in the first place.
The best way to find underperforming, old pages is by checking out your Google Analytics. Once you do this, you can visit the pages and analyze what needs to be changed. A few tactics you can use to help bring back some SEO life include:
- Write an update. If your content is talking about something outdated, consider writing an “update” section at the end of the content if applicable. If not, change the content around to eliminate outdated information or ideas and add in some new ones. This is the most important first step to revamping your content for SEO.
- New keyword research. You may want to do some current keyword research and then change your Meta tags accordingly. You also want to be sure you add in the keyword to your article (if applicable of course) to further the SEO side of keyword research.
- Use authorship markup. The rel=author tag is fairly new, so there is a good chance that the authors of your old pages aren’t utilizing this feature. - Revise your links. You not only want to take a look at the subject matter of your content, but the internal and external links within the content. Make sure that you have no broken links and make sure that the pages you are citing are relevant themselves.
