Best Thinker Webinar: Social Media Hacks and Hijacks
Last week we held another webinar in our Best Thinker webinar series, this time on the topic of Social Media Hacks and Hijacks. The webinar included great speakers: Micah Fox is the Online Expert for Corporate Communications at ING Bank, Mike Kail is the VP of IT Operations at Netflix, and Devin Redmond is the Co-Founder and CEO of Nexgate.
Devin, the Co-Founder and CEO of Nexgate, started us off with a recap of the notable Twitter hijack on the AP Twitter feed, which claimed an attack on the White House, and that President Obama was injured. This one hijacked tweet sent the world's stock markets down in a frenzy. Of course, as you know, that wasn’t true but how would one know when it’s posted by the AP to Twitter?
Micah Fox, the Online Expert for Corporate Communications for ING Bank, took us through an example of an investor who was spreading false rumors about ING in an apparent attempt to manipulate the stock.
Mike Kail, the VP of IT Operations at Netflix, told us he found 77 fake Facebook pages, 134 fake Facebook groups, and 47 fake YouTube channels all offering fake subscriptions to Netflix in an attempt to capture credit card information using the Netflix brand name.
If you have been on a SocialMediaToday webinar before you know they are very “participant driven” and we love to ask your questions of our panelists. Many of the questions from our audience revolved around topics such as: How do social media accounts typically get hacked? Where are the greatest threats of social media hacks? What are the impacts of a hack on one of your accounts? Having seen spam mature in other communication technologies, like email, how do you expect social spam to evolve?
If that piqued your interest and you want to hear the replay of this webinar please check out this link. Otherwise please join us for our next webinar, sponsored by SAP, on the topic of What’s the ROI of an Influencer? starting at noon eastern on November 12th Register here.
