Pay to speak, pay to hear: double dipping on the conference circuit
Why, we asked? Was it the topic? The speaker? What could it be?
Oh no, it was none of that. The reason was because--wait for it--because we have yet to sponsor any of their events.
Pay to play... they actually came right out and said it.
So you go to a conference, pay a couple thousand as an attendee, and then you see presentations ONLY by companies that paid their way in? Does that seem like the best way to get top speakers and cutting edge information about new technologies and innovations in the space?
Hmmm, seems fishy to me.

Very fishy. I've had to turn down a couple of speaking assignments because they wanted my company to pay for the privilege.I'm with you in that it leaves doubts about the quality of those who actually do present.
I remember back in Europe in the mid- to late 90s conference organisers paid us to speak at their events. I was actually quite shocked that in Australia you're expected to speak for free or even pay your way in.
