Facebook has set a new record for users - on Monday, 24th of August, 2015, The Social Network hosted over 1 billion users in a single day. For all the various speculations of user-migrations and the declining popularity of Zuckerberg's social behemoth, the numbers just keep on climbing, underlining its place as the king of the hill in the social media group.
Facebook CEO flagged the achievement in a blog post, noting that:
"On Monday, 1 in 7 people on Earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family."
One in seven. That's an undeniable stat.
As noted by Marketing Land:
"The global total of internet users is thought to be about three billion, meaning that on Monday, one-third of people online were checking out crazy cat videos, first day of school updates and their friends' baby pictures on the social network."
Zuckerberg said the achievement is "just the beginning of connecting the whole world", underlining his ongoing mission for Facebook to dominate not only the social landscape, but the internet more generally as well. Or his ambition to make the world a better place through increased connectivity and access - you decide.

The figures once again highlight the importance of Facebook in our wider communicative process, and the increasing role it plays in people's day-to-day lives. Maybe you're not that into Facebook, maybe you're not really interested in what people post there or in giving your personal information over to a giant company to be used for their own marketing and money-making purposes. But many people are. One in seven, in fact.
Ignoring that audience is most likely a big mistake for brands and business.
We made this video to celebrate all you've done to help our community connect one billion people in a single day. It's an amazing milestone. I hope you enjoy.
