Facebook's public relations sent out emails earlier this week that invited reporters and the like to a special upcoming event that is planned prior to a presentation Mark Zuckerberg will make at the Web 2.0 Summit on Tuesday November 16, 2010. While the invitation reveals no details about the event, TechCrunch.com is fairly sure that Facebook will unveil the secret new e-mail service that will allegedly be the death of gmail.
Word about Facebook's super secret email project aptly named Project Titan started in February however many rumors can be set aside because even the invitation hints at an email service with the invite design that of an envelope.
TechCrunch.com reported that, "this is more than just a UI refresh for Facebook's existing messaging service with POP access tacked on. Rather, Facebook is building a full-fledged webmail client, and while it may only be in early stages come its launch Monday, there's a huge amount of potential here."
The huge amount of potential that TechCrunch speaks about is the fact that Facebook has the world's most popular photos tool, the most popular events tool, and soon could very well have a the most popular local deals tool.
Facebook could easily tweak the design of its webmail client and have it display content from each of their "tools" and, there's also the social element: "Facebook knows who your friends are and how closely you're connected to them; it can probably do a pretty good job figuring out which personal emails you want to read most and prioritize them accordingly."
