It's so simple, so easy, and so gosh darn genius that you're going read it, scratch your head, and exclaim, "I CAN DO THAT!"
The secret to making money, straight from the mouth of the man who knows all about money â€" from a New Jersey liquor store to amazing online businesses, Mr. Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV himself â€" comes down to a paradigm shift of five words.
To quote Gary: "Legacy is greater than currency."
You don't believe me? Click the screen to play this video and listen to his words carefully, as he talks about social equity as more important than financial equity. Listen to him talk about personal branding and building up your thing, whatever your thing is, and letting the social web, the buzz, the power of crowds and clouds be your legacy.
Go on, watch the video:
Legacy is greater than currency.
It's so simple, isn't it? The meaning is so simple that you can do it, can't you? Forget focusing on making money. Focus on building your brand and the money will follow.
In copycat fashion, here's Tony Blake responding to Gary with his own video.
Tony talks about short-term and long-term goals, and how it's important to always have the future in the foreground. Live in the present, live for the moment, but be mindful of the future. Have faith for your legacy, because if it's real, it will outlast anything else.
I like the part when Tony quotes his grandmother, "Reputations take a long time to build, can be destroyed overnight, and may never be regained."
Which brings me to Star Trek: First Contact and a particular scene when Captain Jean-Luc Picard talks to Lily Sloane on board The Enterprise. Sloane is an Earth resident who, due to an encounter with "Resistance is Futile" cyborgs, is rescued by the captain.
Do you remember this scene about money?
Sloane: How much did this thing cost? (referring to the starship)
Picard: Economics of the future are somewhat different. You see, money doesn't exist in the 24th century.
Sloane: No money? You mean you don't get paid?
Picard: The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives; we work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity.
Work to better yourself, work to build your online reputation, work to improve your personal branding, and work to increase the currency of legacy, and anything's possible. Do you agree?
