SPAM comments trying to build backlinks
I received a simple request in my comments section from someone wanting to trade backlinks.
This is most probably SPAM generated by some back hat SEO group and it brings to light the misinformation that continues to permeate the industry.
As I drive around town I still see yard signs that advertise
"First Page Google only $99 guaranteed"
Many ways exist to do this and one is the process of building junk backlinks such as the request by the SPAM in my comments. However, the perceived top page rank is misunderstood and sold as a bastardation of what real content should be. And unfortunately, just trading backlinks does me and the other website little good.
I even considered sending the commenter a short note informing them that if they wanted to make a content quality comment about one of my post I would gladly approve the comment. (I have done this in the past) Then I checked the IP address the comment originated from and it is listed as a SPAM generator. So, I did not bother to respond.
This short interlude of checking the validly of my mystery commenter brings about the need to give some quick advice.
If you want to build quality backlinks, the best method is to invest the time to respond to well ranked blogs and forums. Search them out by doing key word and phrase searches for your industry or topic and then post a comment that has substance.
E.G.
If I was to write a comment in the hopes of getting a backlink from this blog post it would be something like -
"You're spot on about the amount of spam that shows up in blog post comments. It amazes me that people still think it works and are willing to take the chance in having the big three search engines ban their site."
Or
"John, the method I use when starting a new blog or website backlink program is to make it a goal to source out one new blog or forum site per day and make a meaningful comment. This helps me not get overwhelmed and I know that at the end of the year I can get over 200 quality backlinks with just about 15 minutes of work per day. And I keep a list of the sites I comment on so that I don't count them twice"
