LinkedIn is rolling out a new digital business card option, which will enable users to share their LinkedIn profile information via a scannable custom display.
As explained by LinkedIn: “You can now design and personalize your LinkedIn business card to express who you are professionally, add it to your digital wallet, and easily stay connected with people you meet in person. Rolling out globally over the coming months.”

As shown in this image, posted by Entrepreneur Magazine Editor-in-Chief Jason Fiefer, who at LinkedIn’s “Connection by Design” showcase event last week, the new LinkedIn digital business cards will include a headshot and job role description from a users’ LinkedIn profile, plus a QR code.
Users will also be able to customize the card display with a range of design options for the feature, as shown in these screenshots posted by Ishan Sharma on X:

This simplified, customizable digital card should provide another way to streamline LinkedIn connection at events.
Though it’s not the first time LinkedIn has tried out this option.
In 2018, LinkedIn added profile QR codes for offline connection.

The idea then was conceptually the same as this latest digital business card option, though without the custom design and creation options.
So it’s not entirely new, and the previous iteration never appeared to catch on as a significant connection tool.
But maybe this new version will provide another means to drive more IRL connection opportunities.
