Meta has announced a new slate of video creation options for its Edits app, while it's also added a new way to create Reels while using another clip as a reference.
First, Edits added several features, including clickable links for audio, insights into what’s trending among a creator's audience, and the option to create custom kits for style combinations.

Audio links let Reels creators add links to specific songs and sounds, which viewers can tap to hear.
Trending topics will provide Reels creators with more insight into what’s driving engagement among audiences, though it’s only available to creators with more than 10,000 followers right now. Meanwhile, Kits lets creators save certain visual style elements into a dedicated group, so creators can go back to a specific style whenever they choose.
Edits is also getting more visual effects tools, providing expanded creative capacity.
In the main Instagram app, Meta also added a new option that enables Reels creators to use another clip as a reference.

As shown in these example screens, the new option will let creators overlay another Reel on their composer view, so they can ensure that their response clip aligns with the original.
As explained by Instagram: “Open a Reel that’s shorter than 90 seconds, tap the three dot menu, and select 'Use as reference.' The Reel opens in a small window in your camera, so you can watch it as many times as you need before you record.”
Creators can move the player around within the composer screen, and pause playback at any time.
The option also includes a countdown that will make it easier to sync with the original clip.
This could be a handy option for response videos, providing an easier way for creators to share their own take or response based on the specifics of the original video.
The option is currently only available in the iOS version of the app.
Finally, Instagram is letting users know that it’s removing the option to link Reels in a series.
As reported by creator economy expert Lia Haberman, Instagram is removing the option to link Reels in order to simplify the Reels experience. The change goes into effect beginning Oct. 28.
Instagram added Reels linking in August 2025 to help creators build a series of connected Reels clips and extend viewer engagement.

Instagram has been exploring new opportunities for long-form content. The removal of Reels linking could be another step towards building a better system for posting extended viewing experiences, as opposed to trying to guide users through a series of Reels clips.
