Threads has added new community champion badges to recognize top contributors in topical communities, while it's also doubling the number of recognized champions in communities.

As shown in this example, posted by NBA Threads champion Brian Moller, key contributors in Threads communities will be rewarded with these new digital, flippable badges, which they'll then be able to share with others in the app to highlight their community engagement.
As explained by Threads: “Champions make their communities feel like home, and earn their badges by bringing people together and keeping the conversation going.”
Threads said that community champions will be able to manage flair and custom reactions for their communities. Threads added custom flair tags to communities in July.
In a separate post, Threads Chief Connor Hayes said that communities have become "a central part" of Threads as more people come to the app to participate in topical discussion.
Hayes added that Threads wants to build on community engagement by adding more topic groups including NWSL, PWHL and NFL fanbases, as well as location-based groups, such as ohiothreads and memphis.
Launched in September 2025, Threads communities provide an easier way for users to find their people by bringing together like-minded people in searchable, topic-based discussions.
In June, as part of Meta’s announcement that Threads had reached 500 million users, the company said that communities was one of the fastest-growing features in the app.
