Following the launch of an expanded NFL Gametime experience in August, X is now extending its Gametime experience to more sports, in order to provide a more focused way for sports fans to engage with others in the app.
X’s updated NFL Gametime experience provides a dedicated game-day hub for NFL games, with a real-time overview of key plays alongside related posts about each game.

X’s next sports league to get the Gametime treatment is MLB, with more sports to follow.

As explained by X: “Developed by SpaceXAI, Gametime on X brings real-time scores and stats, official team content, news, creators and the live conversation together in one destination built into the platform. As Gametime on X extends across more sports calendars, fans get more ways to follow their teams, and brands get more opportunities to reach highly attentive audiences around the biggest moments.”
This is an important area of focus for X. That’s because while a lot of the industry coverage has focused on platform owner Elon Musk’s political opinions and how they’ve influenced policies at the app, sports remains the most discussed topic among X users overall, and by a significant margin.

As shown in this overview image, which X published as part of a larger look at its fashion industry influence, sports-related content saw almost double the amount of impressions as the next biggest topic in the app.
Sports communities are active, engaged and habitual, and many of them have remained attached to X. Meanwhile, some other elements of discussion have drifted off to other apps.
As such, X needs to keep this sports audience engaged. Maybe with enhanced sports hubs for each game, league and event, the platform can drive more interest and engagement with fans.
